From Worms to Winning

I was looking for a new show horse and fell in love with this pretty sorrel mare.  She had the breeding I wanted to keep as a broodmare and looked like a perfect match. She was beautiful and super sweet.   We got her home and began taking her back to basics as was suggested at the time of purchase.

A week later we took her to Hygard Davidson and McGee Vet Clinic in Lexington, Ky.  My husband told the vet that she was funny on her sides when we rode her.  So they decided to scope her.  What they found was astonishing.  Her stomach was FULL of stomach worms.  They said they never saw one with that many worms!

The outside looks of her fooled many people.  Her hair coat was slick, shiney and she was not underweight.  All signs that a horse has worms.  They also discovered several bot eggs in the stomach as well.  This poor girl couldn't have felt good.

We took her home and treated the stomach for thirty days with small does of Panacur.  Once we did that then we brought her back slowy to training.

She now is doing well and won her first NRHA trophy last weekend!
